Sidecar, by Amy Lane

The year is 1987. The boys wear pink Izod shirts, the girls wear big hair, everyone has a stash box, and AIDS is just an ugly rumor rumbling like a thunderstorm from the cities. A teenage runaway wanders the side of the road, a heartbeat away from despair, and is rescued by a long-haired angel on a Harley. But that's just the beginning of their story. Josiah Daniels wanted peace and quiet and a simple life, and he had it until he rescued Casey from hunger, cold, and exhaustion. Suddenly Joe's life is anything but simple as he and his new charge navigate a world that is changing more rapidly than the people in it. Joe wants to raise Casey to a happy and productive adulthood, and he does. But even as an adult, Casey can't conceive of a happy life without Joe. The trouble is getting Joe to accept that the boy he nurtured is suddenly the man who wants him. Their relationship can either die or change with the world around them. As they make a home, negotiate the new rules of growing up, and swerve around the pitfalls of modern life, Casey learns that adulthood is more than sex, Joe learns that there is no compromise in happy ever after, and they're both forced to realize that the one thing a man shouldn't be is alone.

Heart warming
By Wicked
I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's like every time I read a new release from Amy Lane I want to say it's my favorite. And it is, until another comes out or I reread one of the past ones.

****Spoilers Maybe***

Amazingly heartfelt story that flows seamlessly through 25 years of downs, ups, pain, and love.

Joe Daniels. Every child who is alone and scared should be so lucky as to have him be the one that finds them. As your heart breaks for the lost souls, you still have hope because of the quiet strength of one man.

Casey. The original lost soul who finds not only strength and hope for the future but true love inside of Joe. He not only survives, he thrives, growing into an amazing adult in his own right.

The family they forge and the love they share warms your heart and is so very satisfying. Slowly building into a wonderful, feel good love story with minimal angst...at least from what I'm used to from Ms. Lane. The added bonus is the trip through the 80s and early 90s and all the fun, new discoveries and even tragedy that that encompassed.

Thank you Amy Lane for such a lovely story.
By Niki
I enjoy this one through and through. Amy Lane has given us two very likable characters in Josiah and Casey. Amy Lane is famous for her angst which could be too much for me at times. But in Sidecar, the angst is just the right balance even as the writing is filled with emotions. Josiah is such a lovely character. He is a gentle giant with a big heart and his love for Casey is touching and pure. Casey is equally appealing. He could have really lost it at a tender age of sixteen if not for one miraculous encounter. It is encouraging to "watch" this kid grows into such a fine young man and I love that his love for Josiah never waver through the years Josiah deems him too young. These 2 men's journey through life is one enjoyable read, filled with heartfelt and moving moments. You know they will be together in the end but it is such a lovely reading experience to "see" them get there. Thank you Amy Lane for such a lovely story.

Memory Lane!
By Dillon
I loved the 80's and I love Amy Lane's works. So memory lane for me....Her stories are so touching. The subject matter always captures real life issues, even though some people's lives do not have a HEA. The time spent reading her books for me takes me out of my own life for a short time, mostly because they always have a HEA. The humor and the sadness being present at the forefront. One particular scene had me sad and I shed a few tears. The stark reality of how drugs not only ruins the lives of the people who take them but everyone else who they touch. It is a sad reminder of the number of children that are thrown away; but we hope that for every person that throws away a child there are more people like Joe and Casey ready in the wings to catch them!
