From Publishers Weekly
Launching the Chesapeake Shores series, Woods (Welcome to Serenity) creates an engrossing but overly neat family drama. Divorced financial whiz Abby O' Brien Winters takes a short trip to her hometown of Chesapeake Bay at the behest of her youngest sister, Jess. When Abby realizes the extent of Jess's money troubles, she agrees to prolong her visit, even if it means seeing Trace, an ex-boyfriend who still carries a torch for her. As Abby attempts to help Jess salvage her finances and open an inn, she struggles with her quarreling family, Trace's irresistible attentions and a nasty ex-husband who suddenly wants full custody of their twins. Abby's relationship with Trace is full of chemistry, but it lacks conviction and depth, and Woods relies too heavily on contrivances to keep the story moving forward. (Apr.)

I think Sherryl did a great job of creating well developed characters
By Kortz23
This is the first book that I have read of Sherryl Woods' even though I own quite a few. To be honest I read it because of the new movie/tv show that are coming out on Hallmark Channel. I think Sherryl did a great job of creating well developed characters. She gave you enough information about their past so that you could understand how they got to their current state but didn't go overboard. In addition to creating well developed characters she also did a great job setting the scene. She made the town of Chesapeake Shores a town that everyone would want to come visit and live in.

An interesting story line that I liked that Sherryl included in the book was the relationship between Abby and her sister Jess. Most romance authors concentrate on just the main two characters and sometimes include outside characters into it at times. But in Inn at Eagle Point Sherryl did a great job including how the relationship of Jess and Abby and how their mother leaving affected their life.

One of my favorite quotes in the book was one that Trace said about how Abby was a good mom. I know author readers were all thinking what I was at that moment. Aww... Here is the quote:

"Look, being a bad mom is taking off when some of your kids are too little to understand why you're leaving. Being a bad mom is leaving a seventeen year old daughter to take over and try to make things right. You lived that with Megan. You know firsthand what its like to have a mother you can't count on. You will never allow your girls to feel that kind of pain." He tucked a finger under her chin. "Don't ever let me hear you question your mothering skills again."

Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Pleasant story about family conflicts and relationships. Not very engaging, but ok.
By Jane
STORY BRIEF:
A spread out family with a handful of conflicts among different family members.

The main couple:
Abby and Trace were in love fifteen years ago, but Abby left him to pursue a career in New York City. She now works for a brokerage firm managing investments for clients. She married Wes who divorced her. She now has twin daughters five years old. Wes loves the girls and sees them frequently. Abby comes to Chesapeake Shores for a while to help her sister. While there she runs into Trace. Trace lives elsewhere, but his father asked Trace to come to Chesapeake Shores for six months. Trace has a successful business as a freelance commercial artist doing ads for large companies. Trace still loves Abby and asks her out several times. They go on walks, have lunches, etc.

Secondary characters:
Jess is Abby's youngest sister who has ADHD. Jess bought a hotel using bank loans in their hometown Chesapeake Shores. She has been remodeling and decorating but has been irresponsible with the finances. The bank is going to foreclose. Jess asks Abby to come help with the banking problem. The bank will not foreclose as long as Abby stays in the area to manage the Inn's finances. Abby is able to continue serving her New York clients while she stays in the area with Jess.

Megan and Mick are the parents of Jess and Abby. They divorced fifteen years ago. Megan left Mick alone with his mother to raise their five children. Megan would like relationships with her grown children but that hasn't happened, except for the oldest Abby. Jess has never forgiven Megan for leaving and has refused to talk to her all these years.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
This was ok and kept my interest, but it was easy to put down. I wasn't pulled in with a need to keep reading. It was more of an acceptable something to read to fill some time. It's mostly family interactions, conflicts, and resolving them. For example: Jess is irresponsible and tries to hide her spending, Abby has to say no to Jess, Jess is upset. Wes comes to visit his daughters and doesn't like seeing Abby with another man Trace. Wes has other problems, and he wants custody of the girls. Abby is now worried about those things. Abby and Trace still love each other, but Abby thinks it can not work. Once or twice I was tired of hearing the same argument.

It needed more interesting dialogue. Conversations are ordinary, everyday things that are predictable and frequently used. Also, it could have used more intriguing, unusual, or colorful characters.

Technically this book qualifies as "romance," but it feels more like "women's relationship fiction." There was one sex scene. It felt out of place, as if the author was required to include it but didn't feel like doing it.

I liked seeing how Abby learned that she had been verbally abused and never realized it at the time. Wes was passive-aggressive and judgmental toward Abby. I enjoyed the way Trace desired Abby and the way he treated her. That was the best part of the book. It felt good since I easily identified with Abby.

DATA:
Story length: 378 pages. Swearing language: mild. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: one, 3 pages long. Setting: current day Chesapeake Shores, Maryland, and New York City, NY. Copyright: 2009. Genre: contemporary romance and women's relationship fiction.

Not a worthwhile read!
By Lynette Grassow
This plot seemed lazy and the main characters not given sufficient attention. In contrast the lives of the sub characters were very detailed . I could barely manage getting half way through when I had to delete the book from my collection. It never managed to hold my attention and I found it a boring chore to read. I always finish a book no matter how bad it is just on the off chance it gets better. Yet I could not even do that in this case, I could care less for the (very predictable) ending. The book is not poorly written and the author seems experienced enough, it was just simply boring with a big B.
