63 Beautiful Designs by Thomas Kinkade along with 63 photos of the actual paintings

[[VIDEOID:b744c575377712d356efe6c50df54d31]]This is a beautiful coloring book filled with 63 different designs by the late Thomas Kinkade who is also known as the Painter of Light. My husband and I own a couple of framed prints by Mr. Kinkade and they are beautiful pieces of art that one can look at and lose themselves in.

When I saw that Posh was coming out with a coloring book based on Mr. Kinkade's artwork, I pre-ordered it sight unseen. Sometimes that is a big risk but in this case, I am very pleased with the coloring book. The designs themselves are well done but do lack some of the smaller details. I plan to use a variety of markers and pencils and be able to add my own details with those.

The book is so lovely to look at, my husband took one glance, tried to make off with MY book, and finally had to order his own because this is one that I do not intend to share.

The designs are printed on the right hand side of with the photo of the actual painting on the left hand side (i.e., opposite each other in the book.) This will allow me to look at the photo of the real painting while I am coloring my own. It also, in effect, has the printing of the design on one side of the page. If you don't care about the photos, you can use markers which will bleed through the page (see my coloring medium information below.)

My silent video will show all of the pages of the book, both the designs and the photos. I will also upload a few pages in photos to show how the book is put together.

Here is what I found in this coloring book:

63 Thomas Kinkade designs with 63 color photos as well.
Designs printed on one side of the page with a photo on the back of the page.
Paper is white, very slightly textured, non-perforated and medium weight.
Designs stop before the binding area
Glue Bound
You can cut the pages out without loss of designs. I don't plan to do so as I really like having the photograph together with the design and you will lose that if you cut a page out.
Book lays fairly flat if you break the spine to flatten it out.
Alcohol-based markers bleed through freely.
Water-based markers leave spots of color or shadows of color on the back of the page except for the brush end of Tombows which did not leak through.
India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the page.
Gel pens do not bleed through.
Coloring pencils work well with one exception. All of the types of soft lead pencils I tested (you can see the full list in the comments section below), put down good color and layered well. Derwent Colorsoft was the only pencil that did not blend at all well for me. The color mostly stayed where I first put it down with only light blending at the edges. Hard lead pencils worked well and did not dent the page.

If you decide to use markers, you will probably have some amount of bleed-through onto the back of the page. I recommend using a heavyweight sheet of paper or card stock below your working page. That will keep ink from damaging the next design below.

Nice collection of Kinkade prints.

I wanted to give this 5 stars, however as a coloring book I found the basic format quite perplexing. The most frustrating aspect for me were the heavy outlines for clouds, which makes it ugly in that you cannot give it that understated watercolor soft ethereal look. There are only few that allow that. Also the areas where tall trees feather against the sky also have strong outlines so it's virtually impossible to mimmick the soft Kinkade effects. For all the work that's required in these small renditions to only end up with a bit of a strange mess, I decided to stop mid picture and just use the book for it's pleasant collection of Kinkade unnamed reproductions. My oil-based colored pencils laid down the color nicely on this paper, so did my soft core pencils. Some pictures could be used for framing in a small gallery wall type presentation. I hope others find it more enjoyable for coloring that I did.

63 Thomas Kinkade full-color painting reproductions and a coloring page for each one!

If you like Thomas Kinkade's airy paintings and enjoy coloring, this may be just the thing for you. A slightly smaller format - 7" x 9 1/2" - or a little smaller than a sheet of notebook paper is made up for by nice production details, such as the rounder page corners and heavy-weight paper. The color reproductions are more than sufficient for the coloring guide.

Two things to be aware of:
-- the pages are printed on both sides, so a coloring page has the next color reproduction on the back. The upside is that you get a lot of reproductions and drawing pages in this book; the downside is that if you really go wild on the previous page - lots of wet marker work or grinding those colored pencils in there - you could buckle or engrave the reproduction on the following page.
-- the coloring lines often indicate the light-dark tones of the painting more than the actual landscape composition. If you are planning on trying to copy Kinkade's color schemes, this will help more than hinder, but if you just want to color in the pages without reference to the color reproduction, it's going to be confusing. Think of a paint-by-number painting base drawing - I've attached a couple of photos to give you an idea what I mean.

If you are really, really into Kinkade, none of the paintings are identified. Some time searching in Google images will probably get you the original information, but this is a disappointment. The scenes are mostly countryside but there are a few city scenes in the mix.

If you want to get as close to Kinkade's original as possible, watch the textures. He always has a lot of texture going on in his work, especially in the rainy-day scenes. Colored pencil or pastel pencils are probably going to be your best bet; don't be afraid to leave white paper showing through your colors to get his luminosity.

Find Kinkade's originals too overwhelming to use for a model, or just not into Kinkade that much? Try pop art solarization effects with the light and dark regions; use neon highlighters and black ink for blacklight-like images or use Google image search for

modified Kinkade

to find ideas on how to create Star Wars mashups, add in zombies or even Cthulu! It's your coloring book; color outside the lines if you want.

Edward L. Bernays (1892–1995) helped found the profession of counsel on public relations. From 1919, in partnership with his wife, Doris E. Fleischman, he advised a Who’s Who of industry, profit and nonprofit organizations, and government. A graduate of Cornell University, Bernays was Professor of Public Relations at New York University and the University of Hawaii.

And now a word from the creator of "public relations"...

Edward Bernays was Sigmund Freud’s American nephew. I’m convinced that genius ran in that family. Where Freud unlocked the secrets of the unconscious, Bernays discovered how to use the subconscious to manipulate people on a mass scale. This is a big oversimplification. But he understood how symbols could be used to get people to buy things, either literally or figuratively. For example, to promote cigarette smoking, he linked the idea of women’s rights to it. At a big feminist march for the right to vote, he’d have the women smoke cigarettes, too. That would show people that a woman could smoke too, if she felt like it, just like a man! It worked. But it was more than that. “Public relations” is a two-way street. If you want people to like you, you have to please them. First of all you have to find out what REALLY pleases them. Then he gives some methods of finding out. This is where the book is very dated. Since this book was published, new, more reliable methods of data collection and statistical analysis have been vastly developed from the embryonic methods of Bernays. I’m glad I read the book. The basics are true. But today the book is virtually obsolete on some levels. I recommend reading it for the history and the philosophy involved, but the actual methods are really primitive by today’s standards. But as Bernays himself said, if you’re going to work on a subject, you must first of all read the key texts so you can understand what you’re dealing with. This is one of the key texts of public relations. Four stars.

This book is in itself the true definition of public relations, and explains what motivates the public

This is a great resource which covers the fundamentals of Public Relations, giving some equally great examples.

You'll be delighted to note that some pertinent issues then are still present today, such as discrimination against some races, a lull in relationships the UK and other nations and the questioning of capitalism.

This is despite the book being a drag in some places, especially the beginning bit of the evolution of PR, and some chapters in the practical bit which feel inconclusive. This, however, are minor annoyances and should not blight your reading.

This book is two books put into one. The first half is the history of public relations as Bernays saw it, and the second half is the application. This book was pretty much the first of its kind and introduced a lot of the philosophies that are still used today. That makes it an important study for anyone interested in campaigning or brand management.

An Excellent Read

I don't often read sci-fi or fantasy books, because so many of them are written in such awkward prose. This author, by contrast, writes with a clear style that is neither florid nor too spare; just the right tone to let the plot speak for itself, without the form of the text distracting from its content.

The story starts as a familiar (though not overburdened by tropes) guy-gets-superpowers type story, which is deepened significantly over the course of the book by the gradual revelation of a deeper, mystical history underlying the present events. It's through these images and stories of a legendary past (the sub-titular Legend of the Qi Symbol) that the author really finds his voice; one almost wishes that the story had focused on these past events, but in the end they are made sweeter, and more convincingly mythic in tone, for their tantalizing brevity.

Cann has a very unique way of writing that is both engaging and complex. His prose deliver sophisticated ideas while staying accessible to a casual reader. I look forward to the next book in (what I hope is) a long series. This book contains some of the most visual storytelling that I've read in a while.

Ralph Fischer ist Inhaber und Cheftrainer der M.A.A.F. Schwenningen und betreibt seit �ber 35 Jahren verschiedene Kampfsport und Kampfkunstsysteme. Er begann seine Kampfsport/Kampfkunst-Ausbildung im Alter von 10 Jahren mit dem westlichen Ringen. Hier wurde er bereits nach 2 Jahren Training in die zweite Bundesliga vom AB-Aichhalden verpflichtet und unter Vertrag genommen. Unter anderem erlernte er auch 3,5 Jahre lang das Wing Tsun Kung Fu bis in die Oberstufe. Aber auch mit Boxen, Ju.Jutsu, Judo und Karate hat er sich eine Zeit lang besch�ftigt, bis er den Weg zum Jeet Kune Do und Inosanto Kali fand. Er ist Diplom Fachsport-P�dagoge besitzt mehrere Instruktor- und Pr�ferlizenzen f�r Jeet Kune Do, Inosanto-Kali, Brazilian Ji-Jitsu, Kickboxen und MMA und ist berechtigt selbst Lehrer in Kickboxen und MMA auszubilden. Seit 2013 vertritt er noch die �mter als Sportdirektor und Bundestrainer f�r MMA und Grappling. In seiner Wettkampflaufbahn, wo er �ber 350 K�mpfe im Ringen und Kickboxen bestritt, konnte er mehrere nationale und Internationale Titel erk�mpfen. Auch an drei Weltrekorden hat er erfolgreich teilgenommen. Im Jahr 2009 wurde er von einem Internationalen Kampfkunst Magazin zum Instruktor of the Year gew�hlt und in einem Internationalen Buch mit einer Action Sammelkarte abgelichtet und in die Hall of Fame aufgenommen. 2010 wurde er dann erneut f�r seine 30 J�hrige Arbeit als Wettk�mpfer und Trainer mit der Hall of Fame Aufnahme ausgezeichnet. Im Jahr 2013 wurde er von Europas bekanntester Ruhmenshalle f�r verdiente Kampfsportler, der Munich Hall of Honour als Botschafter der Kampfk�nste zum Instructor of the Year gew�hlt und zusammen mit Cynthia „Lady Dragon" Rothrock ausgezeichnet. Im April 2014 wurde seine �beraus erfolgreiche Academy ebenfalls f�r Ihre Leistungen unter anderem WM, EM, und DM Titel im Amateur und Profibereich von der Munich Hall of Fame geehrt und ausgezeichnet. Von 2008 bis zum Jahr 2011 unterrichtete er noch zus�tzlich als Dozent f�r Selbstverteidigung an der Volkshochschule Villingen-Schwenningen. As a professor and a doctoral tutor in Electronic Engineering Institute, he has been engaged in teaching and research work for 30 years since the graduation from Xidian University in 1982. He has got numerous awards, including the second prize of State Technological Invention Award and the first prize of Army Scientific and Technological progress. He has got the honorable title of advanced worker for his scientific effort, and enjoyed special government allowance from the State Council. He owns 11 National Invention Patents and 100 technical papers and publications. He is also a member of National 863 Specialist Committee, an assessment expert of national science award, a senior fellow of Chinese Institute of Electronic and a fellow of CSNAME.

In 2012, she was recognized as Leader of the Year by the Women’s Foodservice Forum and received the highest industry award, the Silver Plate, for the quick service restaurant sector, presented by the International Food Manufacturer’s Association. She has more than 30 years of experience in brand building, operations and public-company management at companies like Yum Brands, Domino’s Pizza, RJR Nabisco, The Gillette Company and The Procter and Gamble Company.

Inspirational and attitude focused, not a how to

Great story and great lessons. She draws very solid lessons from down and dirt, real life experience. It is very inspirational and I enjoyed it a great deal. And I expect that I will reread it.

However, the author states that she wants the book to be very practical. I didn't find it to be. She links to resources that she found helpful. That's fantastic, but she doesn't go into the deeper "how to" stuff herself. She almost teases the reader with practicality.

Normally I don't find authors who had one major success story useful. She is pretty focused on what worked or her in this one situation. However, she does a decent job extending beyond the Popeyes story. It did not have that "do what I did" feel. I think she understands the limits of her specific experience and tried to emphasize the broader lessons illustrated by her story

All that said I would recommend it highly.

Leadership Lessons from a Wise Leader

There are countless books on leadership but too few have been authored by people who have lived through the pains, pressures and pleasures of influencing a challenging organization through a difficult transformation to yield a sustained success. A True Gem in a Sea of Sameness

I have read more leadership books than I care to admit. Dare to Serve is one of the most distinctive and refreshing leadership books out there! Not only does Dare to Serve offer up a contrarian approach to leadership but Cheryl Bachelder backs it up with real examples and a true to life transformation story of how she literally turned around Popeyes by leading against the grain. In the end what makes her message most compelling is her humility and ability to not take herself too seriously...and that she readily admits her everyday struggle to be a servant leader...because its difficult. Anyone in or outside business, young or more seasoned in any profession can benefit greatly from her words of wisdom and practical experience.

Judi Barrett is the author of many beloved books for children, including Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Pickles to Pittsburgh, Never Take a Shark to the Dentist, and Things That Are Most in the World. She teaches art to kindergarten students at a school in her Brooklyn, New York, neighborhood.

Ron Barrett's children book illustrations have been honored by the Society of Illustrators and have been exhibited at The Louvre in Paris. I want to live there

I like food, so naturally a book about a place that has food for weather really gets to my soul.

I'm getting a bit tired of it though because my daughter ALSO likes hearing the story and I'm afraid she is going to figure out how to get there before I do.
Secret Weapon: she falls asleep. I have coffee. Suck it, child!

Poor Quality Kindle edition

Poor quality ebook for Kindle. I purchased the Kindle edition to use in my classroom as an introduction to teaching probability. I have Kindle app on my Windows 8 computer. It is displayed poorly and you can often not see the detail. The words are too tiny, and you are unable to see the detail in the illustrations. Even with the book displayed on the SMART board for my students to see, it is difficult to see the detail, especially when there is a two page spread. There is no way to display the text larger, and there is no way to zoom to one page level. On the other hand, the story itself is as fabulous as always.

My Favorite Book As A Kid, My Favorite Gift To Give Now

This is my all time favorite children's book. Long before the animated movies came out, I used to tout the virtues of this book. In college, when my friends with education majors had to read and review 50 children's books, I'd tell them all to be sure to include this one. Now, every 1st birthday of any niece, nephew, or friend's kid, I buy them this book and write a little something on the inside cover. While 1 year old is a little young, we just kind of tell the story while looking at the pictures rather than read every word. It is my 1 year old nephew's favorite book and my 4 year old niece always remembers I gave her the book each time her parents read it to her. I'm very happy that they turned this into a board book. It is much more durable now for little ones to hold the book themselves. I cannot recommend this book more highly.
