About the Author
Michael S. Okun, MD, was the author of the Amazon bestseller Parkinson’s Treatment: 10 Secrets to a Happier Life which was translated into over 20 languages. His laboratory focuses on research underpinning Parkinson’s, Tourette, and other movement disorders and he is active in the development of new treatments and devices. He was recently recognized at the White House as a Champion of Change for his work in these areas. Dr. Okun is currently Chairman of Neurology, Professor and Co-director of the Center for Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration at the University of Florida College of Medicine.� The center is unique in that it is comprised of 40+ interdisciplinary faculty members from diverse areas of campus, all of whom are dedicated to care, outreach, education and research. He was instrumental in the construction of a one-stop patient-centered clinical-research experience for national and international patients seen at the University of Florida. Dr. Okun is the Co-chair of the Medical Advisory Board for the Tourette Association of America and the National Medical Director for the Parkinson’s Foundation. This book was edited by University of Florida clinicians and scientists provide very useful information and practical guidance to Tourette syndrome patients, families, school teachers and care providers of these patients. After going through this wonderful books, patients and their family members will restore the hope to a better quality of life in homes, schools, playgrounds and enjoying parties. About the Author
Peter Levitan is a serial new business pitcher and has delivered global, regional, and very local new business pitches for over 30 years. He has a Hall Of Fame pitch batting average. Peter ran business development and marketing at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Worldwide in New York and London, and bought and sold three of his own agencies (including Portland’s Citrus). Getting your batting average even a little bit better is critical

Peter Levitan was considered one of Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising's new business and pitch masters. After reading his book, I was not surprised that he laid down the definitive advertising agency pitch ‘how-to’ book. Peter combines his business development work for the world’s largest agency with his experience as a small ad agency owner. Pitching is always an exciting, strategic and expensive activity wether your agency is large or small. Getting your batting average even a little bit better is critical.
The book clearly lays out his detailed approach and uses funny stories, like Saatchi’s failed Adidas pitch, to help illustrate how to win. The supporting cartoons are worth the price of the book. Peter supplements his take on pitching with interviews with clients, agency leaders, advertising pitch consultants and some bystanders. I’d say, read it because your competitors might have.

I have been doing advertising agency new business for over ten years. I’ve read every book on the subject. The Levitan Pitch takes a different tack. Levitan has written the best “How to” on the subject. It is easy to read, well designed and is packed with useful and actionable advice. It is based on his global and local agency experience, pitching huge and small clients.

He supports his own insights and advice with a wide range of interviews with industry leaders from the advertising, client and agency search consultant sides of the business. The cartoons about what not to do in a pitch are worth the price alone.

Since we all have ADHD of some form, here is one of the 30 plus tips that stood out and it a way to use LinkedIn to get inside the client’s head.

Read how a prospective client writes their own recommendations for other people to find out how the client thinks and what is important to them. I never thought of this one. Oh, also read the funny and sad pitches that went wrong. His baby seals story is weird.

I'm not in advertising, but I bought this book anyways because I'm friends with Peter's kid. As an industry outsider, I expected to be lost from page 1. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly and effortlessly the book familiarizes its readers with advertising terms and mechanics. What's really striking about The Levitan Pitch is its accessibility. Peter expertly marries technical insights with page turning, concept demonstrative anecdotes early enough to get you hooked. Using the case of the founding period of the United States as an illustration, and drawing from classic sources in Western political theory, this book describes the conceptual, historical, and normative features of the electoral constituency. As an institution conceptually separate from the casting of votes, the electoral constituency is little studied. Its historical origins are often incorrectly described. And as a normative matter, the constituency is almost completely ignored. Raising these conceptual, historical and normative issues, the argument culminates with a novel thought experiment of imagining how politics might change under randomized, permanent, national electoral constituencies. About the Author
Andrew Rehfeld is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Washington University in St Louis where he has been teaching since 2001. He is the recipient of the University of Chicago Century Fellowship and the Mellon Foundation Dissertation-Year Fellowship. The dissertation on which this book is based was nominated for the American Political Science Association's William Anderson Award in 2002 and the APSA Leo Strauss Award (2001). He is the author of articles which have appeared in academic journals such as Studies in American Political Development and books, including the Dictionary of American History. He is a member of the American Political Science Association, Association for Political Theory, The Historical Society, and the Midwest Political Science Association, among others.

Great Read

In this book, Rehfeld provides a new and fresh look at the reasons for breaking up constituencies by geographical location. He strongly argue that breaking up people by geographic location for representation (i.e in the House of Representatives) may have made more sense in the past due to the difficulty of travel and communication, but in today's modern world, we should place people into different constituencies with methods other than geographical location. To prove his point, he analyzes all the philosophical arguments for breaking up political representation by geography, and he logically shows that those arguments are weak. In contrast, he sets out to prove that other modes of creating constituency could provide many benefits, including creating a House of Representatives that would more accurately represent the greater good or the interests of all persons in the U.S. (and not only those in a set geographical location). The book is a fantastic read, and functions as a great thought experiment. If anything, Rehfeld proves that we should not continue doing something simply because it was done in the past.

Some time ago I started to get into programming computers. There are books that teach programming languages. There are others that simply tell you what the commands are. They don't teach you how to program, but you can use the information to make your programs work. In a sense, programming books don't teach programming.
In a similar way, Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs doesn't teach you how to do spells (although it does give a brief outline so you can use this without any other book). What it does do is give you all the information you need to make your spells, talismans, amulets, and rituals work better.
This book has become a classic in its field. Every time I visit an occult shop that sells herbs, I look to see what books they use as resources. Inevitably, this book is there, usually quite beaten up from constant use. The pros use it and so do over 200,000 people like you.
The cross-referenced index of folk names could be a book by itself. Did you know that if a magical spell calls for "bats' wings" you should use holly? About the Author
Scott Cunningham practiced magic actively for over twenty years. He was the author of more than fifty books covering both fiction and non-fiction subject matter; sixteen of his titles are published by Llewellyn Publications. Scott's books reflect a broad range of interests within the New Age sphere, where he was very highly regarded. He passed from this life on March 28, 1993, after a long illness.

I was first acquainted with this book when it first came out decades ago. As with any book of it's type, it is a reference, not a spell book. It gives you the historical lore, planetary rulers, male/female, etc. What you do with the book is match it up with other references so that you get a full depth as to what the herb will do. It was never meant to be an indepth volume spilling every secret of the plant out. This is where study and research are involved. Anyone that has been involved with the study of the occult knows that not everything is always spelled out. That is what makes the difference between the novice who gets in over their head and can hurt themselves with the information, and the adept who realizes that time and effort and experience is required to obtain the desired results. If you're willing to dig and study, you will find this book a true gem.

PERFECT!!

I've recently came to the conclusion that I am a natural born witch. However, I had no idea where to start. Googling only directed me to shady "spell" sites but I wanted to learn more. I wanted to understand how to cast a spell and wanted a guide that helped me from the beginning. Well, this book is it. I learned how to make a satchet and learned which planets were associated with what herbs and much more. This book is perfect for a complete newbie. For experienced witches this might be a bit boring, but it doesn't hurt to have since it has info on hundreds of herbs. It's a nice book to have. I love it!!! 5 stars for sure.

Awesome reference book for everything herbal. This book has come in handy so many time while making soaps, lotions, or tinctures. We still have it on the shelf in the dining room. It's a must have for an herbal life.
