Liveness is not a fixed ontological state that exists in the absence of electronic mediation, but rather a dynamically performed assertion of human presence within a technological network of communication. This book provides new insights into how the ideas of performance and liveness continue to permeate the perception and reception of even highly mediatized music within a society so deeply invested, on every level, with the use of electronic technologies.

Real deal, life-saving info

I've read this book twice. EJ has a unique ability to break down complex things in a way that easy to understand. My favorite chapter is "A Hero's Death". AMAZING. EJ speaks truth. And that isn't always easy to swallow. The fact is we live in uncertain times. And this book will help you think about your daily life. And become more of a "Sheepdog" than a "sheep." There's tons of practical, everyday advice too. I highly recommend you pick up a copy of this book. And if you can, attend one of EJ's "Modern Warrior" live firearms training events -- life changing.

I would recommend the book. I have read several other books on similar subjects. This type of book starts me thinking about the "What If's" in life. The great thing about this book is that it has lots of information and is a fast read.

Not much actionalbe information.

While the advertisement sounded good, the content is quite sub-par. There was little in this book that anyone of us would now know. This is especially true in regard to actionable advice. I don't think most of us need to have someone explain to us the reasons that would drive dangerous behavior. What we need to know is how to respond to those behaviors. This book was light on those facts.
The style in which it was written was entertaining but as far as providing information that allows for me and my family to be safer, it was not very helpful.

About the Author
Scott DeVeaux is a nationally recognized jazz scholar whose 1997 book The Birth of Bebop: A Social and Musical History won the American Book Award, an ASCAP–Deems Taylor Award, the Otto Kinkeldey Award from the American Musicological Society, and the ARSC Award for Excellence in Historical Sound Research. He has taught jazz history at the University of Virginia for more than 25 years.

Gary Giddins is the Executive Director of the Leon Levy Center for Biography at the City University of New York. He was the Village Voice jazz columnist for over 30 years and remains a preeminent jazz critic who received the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award, and the Bell Atlantic Award for Visions of Jazz: The First Century in 1998. His other books include Bing Crosby: A Pocketful of Dreams: The Early Years, 1903–1940, which won the Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award and the ARSC Award for Excellence in Historical Sound Research; Weatherbird: Jazz at the Dawn of Its Second Century; Faces in the Crowd; Natural Selection; Warning Shadows; and biographies of Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker. He has won an unparalleled six ASCAP–Deems Taylor Awards, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a Peabody Award in Broadcasting.

About the Author

Since 1983, Tom Glatch has contributed hundreds of stories and photographs to major collector, Corvette, Mustang, muscle car, and Mopar magazines. Tom grew up during the muscle car era, and his first car was a very quick 1970 Plymouth Duster 340. Tom and his wife Kelly have contributed photographs to books by other Motorbooks authors, as well as Motorbooks' Corvette calendars. When not pursuing old muscle cars, Tom works for a Fortune 500 corporation as a data and systems analyst and developer. He lives in southeastern Wisconsin with his wife and two children, daughter Keara and son Sean.

Tom Loeser�has worked as a Firefighter for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (now known as CAL Fire), as a graphic designer and photographer, and as chief photographer for the Long Beach Grand Prix. Since 2012 he has worked full-time as a book photographer provided images for Motorbooks titles�Art of the Corvette, Art of the Mustang,�Wide-Open Muscle, and Classic Motorcycles:�Art of the Speed. His next book,�The Art of�Mopar: Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth Muscle Cars, is in production.
